Transforming a Timber Conservatory into a Year-Round Living Space

Project Overview

Our expert team at Apple & Oak recently completed a stunning conservatory conversion that highlights the dramatic difference a professional refurbishment can make to a home’s usability. The original structure – an ageing timber conservatory – had become a source of frustration for the homeowners. Despite offering a breath-taking view of the surrounding landscape, the room remained largely unused for most of the year. Like many older conservatories, it suffered from poor thermal efficiency, becoming uncomfortably hot in the height of summer and bitterly cold during the winter months.

The Solution: High-Performance Products

To address these temperature fluctuations and breathe new life into the space, our team of specialists implemented a complete high-specification upgrade focusing on both the vertical glazing and the roofing system.

As experts in conservatory renovation, we replaced the outdated timber frames with new A-rated Eurocell uPVC windows and doors. These modern units are engineered for maximum thermal control, ensuring that the room remains energy-efficient and secure to the highest industry standards. By selecting Eurocell products, we ensured the homeowners would benefit from a durable, low-maintenance finish that complements the aesthetic of their property.

Advanced Roofing Technology

The centrepiece of this conversion was the installation of the industry-leading SupaLite tiled conservatory roof. We are multi-award-winning SupaLite Registered Installers, and for this project, the lightweight roofing system was the perfect solution to provide the insulation the home lacked.

To ensure the room remained bright and airy, we integrated two large SkyVista glass roof panels. These panels are specifically designed to flood the interior with natural light, maintaining that classic conservatory feel while providing the superior thermal performance of a solid roof. For the exterior finish, the homeowners chose Extralight Ember roof tiles. These were selected not only for their durability but because they perfectly complement the existing hanging tiles of the main house, creating a seamless architectural transition between the original building and the new extension.
